Make it a FRESHER DAY!
Life is not always fun.
In an effort to put a positive spin on my younger boys day - I created the
"re-Fresher Jug".
Taking a milk jug from Shatto Dairy that says "FRESHER"
on the side.
I filled it with positive "to do's" and they each pull one before
the bus comes in the morning.
Things like:
Make good choices today,
Say 5 kind things today,
Be a Star Student today, Smile at least 10 times today,
Be a GREAT Citizen, Eat all your lunch,
Pick up 5 pieces of Trash,
Ask how you can help your teacher; etc.
I ask them to read it and then report to me when
they return home if they were able to do their
"reFresher".
They get excited to see what task they are assigned
and overall I think it is helping to put a
"FRESHER" Spin on their day!!
XOXO

Flashback Friday
Flashback 2008
My "littles" in 2008 at a neighbor's Birthday Party.
I was really happy to find these photos today stored in one of
my online albums.
Back when my kids were tiny I had over
14,000 photos on my computer. No one ever told me about "backing up" or storing the images online.
Well, my computer crashed on fateful day and I will admit that I went into a depression over all the lost images.
I still cry when I think about it.
Since then I have tried to back up regularly, store images on disc and also in online albums.
This time in my life brings back mixed emotions. My little guy Trevan was (and still can be) a handful. He was my "high maintenance baby". Turner had been diagnosed as "Autistic" at 18months and during those years we had a therapist come to our home for 3 hrs each day.
When he was 3 he finally started speaking and doing sign language.
He was very overstimulated by most things and we had a hard time going out of the house. He screamed 90% of the time.
I spent a lot of time at home where I cared for my neighbor's boys and just tried my best to be the best mom to my boys as I could. I did not have much of a social life outside of dealing with Turner's special needs and the need of trying to raise an unruly teen. Taylor had begun to act out in school and was becoming a bit of a wild child.
I didn't think at that time that I would ever see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I actually miss {at times} those years where they were wee ones.
I feel sad that I feel like I missed so much joy. I was so overwhelmed and tired and felt burdened most of the time.
I felt like I was failing them - even though I did the best job I could have.
What I miss most are the images of those precious moments that I captured to treasure forever that are now lost. Only do I have them in my minds eye. I don't have them to share with my boys...
that makes me the saddest of all.
Don't learn the hard way.
Back up your images, store on disc and pay a small fee to upload and store them on the web!!
I have an account with SMUGMUG.
XOXO

Some days...
{Balancing Act}
Just got a call from a mom who works in Turner's Class. She said that he told her he watched "Parenthood" last night and that he now knows that Max has Aspbergers WAY worse than him.
He said "Max just learned to wash his armpits, butt and balls with soap! I have been doing that all along and I am only 9!" {wow. speechless son.}
I guess having four boys you develop a tough skin. I use to want to have that perfect little family. You know the one with the insanely caring husband that brings flowers, leaves love notes and is "in tune" with his wife's emotions?
THAT husband who knows when you are dog dead tired from dealing all day with a mentally impaired child, paying the bills with not enough money, doing the grocery shopping, 4 loads of laundry, dealt with fighting kids, homework, mopping up muddy dog prints off the kitchen floor, putting out a fire that your kid started by holding toilet paper over the candle you lit to make a nice homecoming for him, cooked a nice dinner all in the couple hours before he arrived home from work - and would NEVER dream of asking for eh, hem...you know that thing you have to do that starts with "S" and ends with "X" the minute you lay your head on the pillow.
The kind of family with the well mannered kids who relish in doing their chores just to be helpful, who never fight or use bad words, who dress the way you want them to, who love to get up early on Sunday to go to Church, teens who pull their pants up so you can't see their underwear, who never ask for money or make you feel guilty that they don't have a cell phone...you know that kind?
Well I know ... big dreams.
You get what you get. I get that. So at times like this when I am left speechless...{believe me there have been many} I just have to smile. My life is just one big balancing act. I have to be careful not to take things too seriously and teeter off that slippery slope!
I have learned to just throw my head back and laugh. In the grand scheme of life it really won't matter tomorrow what people think. It is what it is...and a little bit more!!

Good Info...
From Facebook to the Blog...had to share!
Hole Under Door Lock
Someone on Facebook Posted:
Someone on Facebook Posted:
"Wednesday, I approached my truck from the passenger side to place my computer bag in the front passenger seat.
As I reached to open the door I noticed there was a hole right
under my door handle.
My first thought was, "someone has shot my truck !"
I began to think about it and inspect it a little closer and
the "light" slowly began to come on.
I phoned my friend who owns a body shop and asked if he had any
vehicles with damage to the doors that looked like a bullet hole.
"Yes, I see it all the time. Thieves have a punch and place it
right under the door handle, knock a hole through, reach in and
unlock it, just as if they have a key. No alarms, broken glass,
or anything."
I then placed a call to my insurance agent and explained it to
him. I was puzzled that they left my GPS and all other belongings.
Here is where it gets scary!
"Oh no, he said, they want the break-in to be so subtle that you
don't even realize it. They look at your GPS to see where "home"
is. Or check your address from Insurance and Registration in your glove box. Now, they know what you drive,
go to your home, and if your
vehicle isn't there they assume you aren't and break into your home."
He said they will even leave a purse or wallet and only take one
or two credit cards. By the time you realize there has been a
theft, they may have already had a couple of days or more to
use them.
(I didn't realize my situation for two full days!)
They even give you the courtesy of re-locking your doors for you.
Periodically, walk around your car, especially after you park
in a shopping center or other large parking area.
Report thefts immediately....your bank w/missing check numbers,
your credit card agencies, police, and insurance companies, etc."

Keeping Kids Safe In Public
Great Use for your Camera Phone...
I had to share this story.
Recently a friend of mine took a trip to
Disneyland with a Mom's Club she belongs to.
She has a special needs son that has high functioning Autism.
Prior to entering the park the mom's got all the kids together and they snapped a photo of the group on their phones.
Little did they know that that photo would become a life saver in only a matter of hours...
While making a trip to the bathroom, her 3 year old son who was locked in the stall with her, unlocked the door and bolted as she was changing her newborn on the changing table.
She yelled for him, quickly scooped the baby up and ran after him.
Hoping that another friend might see him she scanned the faces in the bathroom and did not see anyone she knew.
She just left her items behind and frantically ran out of the bathroom looking for him.
As she hollered for him Disney Staff quickly came to her aid. She described him but drew a blank in the moment of panic as to what he had on. By this time some of the other moms from the group had joined her and one remembered snapping the photo.
She was able to text it to the Disney Staffer who then texted the image to Security. That section of the Park was immediately locked down and within 25 minutes he was located
and returned to his mom.
The camera phone pic saved them a lot of time and heartache!!
So, next time you take a trip out in public - remember to snap a photo of your kids -- no matter their age. It can help locate them with an up to date photo, description of what they are wearing and can be quickly texted to Security or Authorities for help!
Great use of the Camera Phone!!
